Overview

Got clothes to sell or money to spend? SWOP has proved a popular clothing resale destination since 2013, launching in West End with a new approach to higher-end secondhand fashion. Yet the time has come for the Brisbane-born business to make a move, shifting across town to mark a new beginning amid Fortitude Valley's ritzy James Street precinct.

Now with locations in Melbourne and Sydney, SWOP is no ordinary consignment store. Inspired by design-driven circular fashion, SWOP purchases its pieces directly from its community, resulting in a highly intentional, stringent authentication process that ensures pre-loved fashion finds the perfect wardrobe.

This new space also reflects SWOP's luxe surroundings. Designed by William McRoberts and Studio Gardner, the fit-out is as sleek and stylish as you'd expect. Inside, statement sculptures and stunning objects by Australian designers like Olivia Bossy, James Lemon, Tanika Jellis and Sarah I'Anson heighten the experience alongside iconic European furnishings, such as an original Terazza Sofa by Swiss artist Ubald Klug.

Entering from Wandoo Street, the warehouse-style space is flooded with natural light, making SWOP a calming place to browse the carefully curated racks. Offering an extensive and ever-changing selection of secondhand fashion and accessories, you're just as likely to discover the haute couture of Maison Margiela as must-have Wandler leather goods.

Yet the Fortitude Valley store isn't all about OTT consumerism. With the fashion industry emitting around the same amount of greenhouse gases each year as France, Germany and the UK combined, SWOP offers a more responsible way to rethink or add to your wardrobe that keeps the environment in mind. In 2025, the brand rehomed almost 90,000 pieces across its stores.

For well-dressed folk with designer fashion to sell, SWOP hands over 50 percent of the resale value in store credit or 30 percent in cash. And for those with items priced over $249, the cash resale value jumps to 40 percent. Meanwhile, you might be invited to trade your item for another in-store, helping you replace unwanted clothing with a piece that makes your outfit feel fresh again.
