Coming Soon: Museum of Brisbane Is Doubling Down on Local Design With a New Gift Shop Opening This December
Brisbane's homegrown designers are getting more shelf space, with a new gift shop opening inside City Hall this December.
Upcoming trips to the Museum of Brisbane will soon look a little different, with the Brisbane City Hall space gearing up to open a new MoB Shop on the ground floor this December. Complementing the existing MoB Shop on level three, the expanded offering will meet rising demand for Brisbane-themed specialty gifts and locally made merchandise.
Two leading local practitioners, Clare Design and JDA Co., conceived this 40-square-metre, light-filled space and adjacent lobby area, connecting King George Square to the heritage-listed interiors of City Hall. As part of the brief, care was taken to keep the design sensitive to MoB Shop's existing surroundings.

"[The goal was to] create a retail experience that sits comfortably within the heritage of Brisbane City Hall while feeling fresh and contemporary," says JDA Co architect Tamarind Taylor. "The neutral palette and mirrored detailing enhance light, space and openness, creating an inviting backdrop for a curated collection of local and designer products."
When the space launches, visitors can expect reflective windows and doorways, striking architectural fittings, and bespoke cabinetry, all designed as a contemporary showcase for handmade gifts and treasures from Brisbane artists such as Jesse Irwin, Debra Hood and Phoebe Paradise.

With the new MoB location featuring uniquely Brisbane-inspired souvenirs, covetable gifts and one-of-a-kind items, including locally made jewellery and homewares, the museum is also planning upcoming exclusive product collaborations with makers like Paper Boat Press, Martin Edge and Forge Forward.
"MoB Shop has become a destination in its own right with thousands of customers each week as demand for locally made, beautifully designed and genuinely unique products grows," says Museum of Brisbane CEO Director Zoe Graham. "By providing more space for locally made products, we can champion more artists, makers and designers and help connect their work with an even wider audience."

MoB Shop is expected to open on the ground floor of the Museum of Brisbane in December 2026. Head to the website for more information.
