Overview
Edwina Corlette opened the Edwina Corlette Gallery in 2008, building her program on the long-term representation of a select group of contemporary artists from Australia and the Asia-Pacific, working across painting, sculpture, and installation. Rather than chasing trends, the gallery has stuck with the same core group for years, adding new names only when they fit the existing program's tone.
The gallery operates out of Brunswick Street in New Farm — alongside Jan Murphy, Judith Wright and Philip Bacon galleries — running a full annual calendar of solo and group exhibitions alongside artist talks, collaborations and offsite projects, including regular participation in major Australian art fairs. It's recognised as one of Brisbane's leading contemporary art spaces, with a program that changes often enough to reward repeat visits.
The roster spans James Drinkwater, Rhys Lee, Vipoo Srivilasa and Sally Anderson through to John Bokor, Eliza Gosse, Judith Sinnamon and Miranda Skoczek, with a strong desert art presence too — Yarrenyty Arltere Artists, Sally Nangala Mulda and Candy Nelson Nakamarra all show alongside the gallery's city-based painters and sculptors.
