River Quay Green, South Bank

An always-bustling riverside lawn made for picnics, live music and movies under the stars.

Overview

River Quay Green sits right on the Brisbane River at South Bank's Clem Jones Promenade, and has spent over a decade as one of the precinct's go-to spots for spreading out a picnic blanket with a view of the water, as it's one of its rare licensed areas. It's an open, grassy stretch — no set-up required beyond a rug and whatever you're packing to eat.

The green regularly hosts free live music sessions and outdoor movie nights, so it's worth checking what's on before you head down. If you'd rather not cook, you're steps from a run of riverside restaurants — Otto Ristorante, Popolo Italian Kitchen, River Quay Fish and Aquitaine Brasserie all back directly onto the lawn, so you can order in instead of packing a hamper.
