The locally loved Coogee Bay Hotel has existed on this strip of beachfront (in one form or another) for 150 years. It’s a drinking and dining institution that’s made for folks looking to spend long days and nights out in a quintessentially Sydney way. People flock here for both beachside hangs in the beer garden or more intimate affairs within the newly renovated Arden Lounge.

The Arden Lounge is the ideal segue to the events offering. The easy-breezy art deco space comes complete with its own fully stocked bar and lush garden-side vibes. But, whether you want to host a group of 40 or 200, The Bay’s got a space for you. There’s two Seaview rooms, each offering a sunlit space that can be used seated or standing, together or separately (with the option for a dance floor); as well as the Seabreeze room, which is great for groups up to 60 when there’s no plans of boogying.

Whether you want a private bar and dance floor, formal sit-down soirée, canapés and cocktails or a larger share-style meal, you’re sorted here. Plus, there’s a breeze fresh off the ocean. Get familiar with Coogee Bay Hotel’s events packages to start your party planning.

La Salut is the Catalan-inspired wine and vermouth bar — from the team behind Love Tilly Devine, Dear Saint Eloise and Ragazzi — taking over a corner of Redfern’s overhauled Norfolk Hotel. Sip your way through the Spanish-only wine menu that focuses on bottles from smaller vineyards in the sun-drenched European country (many of which exclusively produce natural and biodynamic wines). Then, get around Manchego cheese and anchovies, spiced fried quail, and some moorish mussels bathed in hot sauce and served with hot chips.

If you’re looking to book out the entire space, reach out to the La Salut team and they’ll sort out the food, vino and vibes — leaving you and your guests to have an exceptionally delicious time.

Redfern’s bright and airy Sunshine Inn is best known for its laidback vibe, friendly team, extensive drinks list and modern food menu championing all things meat-free. But if you head out the back you’ll find DD’s, a disco-inspired dining room that’s altogether darker and moodier. Expect wood-panelled walls, velvet-covered booths and a dimly lit bar pumping out Australiana cocktails till the wee hours.

For private functions, DD’s holds 50 seated or 70 standing. Looking to go bigger? If you’ve got over 100 people, chat to the friendly folk to organise booking the whole Sunshine-Inn-plus-DD’s space. And if you don’t mind partying on a weeknight, you’re in luck. From Sunday to Thursday, there’s no minimum spend on your event’s drink tab, so it can be as tame as you make it.

The recently hatted Nour sits on a leafy stretch of Crown Street that’s forever buzzing with stylistic Sydney wanderers and those enjoying long brunches on tables and chairs covering the footpath. Perfected for sharing, the menu post-mezze splits into ‘from the coal grill’ and ‘from the garden’ — and will cater for all.

Although you’re spoilt for choice in this part of Surry Hills, the eating and drinking on offer at Nour is standout. And for an event, it’s an especially delicious option. If you’re looking to keep it intimate and special, the private dining room is for you. Fully closed to the rest of the restaurant, you’ll be looked after by an experienced team while you feast and enjoy the finer things. (Though, if you please, you can also fill the entire venue with up to 110 of your nearest and dearest.)

    Rose of Australia

This art deco pub in a corner spot on Erskineville Road is rarely seen without an assorted bunch of people merrily enjoying afternoon happy-hour sips, a quick-drink-turned-late-night or classic local feed. Family run and having sat in this place since 1932, it’s no wonder there’s an inherent sense of community. The Rose is a top-notch Inner West pub, well worth a visit on your next trip out for a beer.

Looking to party? You’ll find spots aplenty for you — no matter the size of your group — spanning two floors. Invite 150 pals and take over the entire top floor, or have your choice of numerous spaces — complete with a customised drinks table and private bartender if that’s your vibe — for groups of up to 60.
