Four Pubs to Hit Post-Match to Celebrate a Victory

In partnership with

Revel in that win just a while longer in these sports-loving Brisbane pubs.

There's no better feeling in the world than emerging victorious from a match — whether you had to fight tooth and nail or it was a landslide defeat, winners are most definitely grinners. And no matter which sport you play, position you're in or team you play for — if you have something to celebrate, you'll want somewhere to celebrate it.

You know the deal — you're pumped from the game and want to revel in that winning glow. Going home just won't cut it. Cracking open a Heineken 3 and chatting incessantly about how great the game was, well, that's more like it. To help you do just that, we've put together a list of four spots that'll help you bask in the post-match glory.

There’s a good chance you and your teammates are going to be ravenous following your victory. Head to Buffalo Bar, one of Brisbane’s original American-themed hangouts, for a winning feed. Grab a brew and a basket of wings to start, then move onto the main event: a 16-hour one-kilogram platter of smoked brisket, chorizo, chicken and pork shoulder for $60. If you’re keen for more sports post-feast, Buffalo Bar broadcasts all types of games, from the Superbowl to the rugby league. Sit back and enjoy the passionate atmosphere.

Nestled into Newstead’s Gasworks precinct, the Defiant Duck lives and breathes sport, and it has the TV screens to prove it. The venue certainly stands out within the area, which isn’t that focused on games, sets or matches — but maybe that’s what makes this duck so defiant. Pair your post-win afterglow with plenty of beers and American-style eats, Heineken 3s, truffle mac and cheese croquettes, cheeseburgers and banana splits all go well with winning. Trust us.

If you’re an eastsider and you’ve just scored a win, moseying on down to Bulimba is a mighty fine way to cap off the night. You’re out of the busy Woolloongabba area, but still close enough to feel the victorious vibe — and if you’re still hungry for sport, you can watch on the bar’s big screens. A classic pub menu will satisfy your appetite, and free wifi means you can upload all those celebratory pics. A mainstay of Oxford Street, it’s also a great people-watching spot if you nab a berth by the window while you enjoy a beer or two.

A good place to watch a game is usually also a good place to go post-game, and Riverside’s Pig ‘N’ Whistle ticks both boxes. There’s a reason that it’s one of the go-to spots in the CBD, and has been since it opened back in 2002. For those fond of British teams or English-dominated sports, such as soccer, you’ll feel particularly welcome here. But it’s got general sports-lovers and players covered, too. Saying cheers to your win in the beer garden is a must.
