Overview

Passiontree Velvet is probably best known for its elegant high teas. The traditional three-tiered trimmings are guaranteed to please your inner aristocrat, and bring a little elegance to your visit to the bustling Broadway shopping centre.

The Duchess High Tea ($34.95 per person) comprises an assortment of ribbon sandwiches, including classics such as cucumber, smoked salmon, egg salad and ham. It hasn't forgotten the hallmark high tea feature (besides the tea itself): scones, served warm and accompanied with jam and cream. The tea served is from Harney & Sons, and the selection is quite extensive.

Aside from the high tea and other cafe fare, Passiontree Velvet also creates custom cakes for any occasion — weddings, graduation and birthdays. With moreish flavours like raspberry and honeycomb trifle, tiramisu, passionfruit velvet and ruby berry, there is something for everyone. The most popular order is the S'mores Bombe cake, which has a marshmallow and caramel centre, chocolate mousse and a butter biscuit coating and is finished off with fluffy, torched meringue.

If a cake isn't your thing, you can also order one of the macaron towers or boxes — you can get 40 of the bite-sized treats for $120. Flavours include red velvet, strawberry, lavender, honeycomb, pistachio, salted caramel and cookies and cream. Or, if you're settling in for a Christmas movie marathon (which we think is acceptable at any time of year), order a festive gingerbread 'tree' with fifteen layers of Christmas spice cookies, icing and sprinkles.
