Santini Gelados Artesanais
It's (almost) all about the ice cream at this artisanal gelateria — but the chocolate cake is equally excellent.
Overview
Are you really in Lisbon if you don't "go for a Santini"? The most famous ice cream parlour in Portugal, Santini has been going for over 70 years. Founded by Attilio Santini in Tamariz, it's still a family business and has become a fixture in the lives of generations. They've expanded to 11 stores, with the one in the Chiado district opening in 2010 and replicating all the popularity of the original.
Expect a line on hot days as locals and visitors seek out the city's best gelado. The quality remains unchanged: premium, handmade ice creams using only real fruit and fresh ingredients. You have classic flavours like coconut and lemon, as well as torrone (almond caramel), brigadier (dulce de leche with cocoa and dark chocolate pieces), egg custard with pine nut, Manuel's (a pomegranate and raspberry flavour made by Attilio's grandson) and the ever-popular imperial cream (strawberries and cream). They're always innovating new flavours, and they make all their own cones and cookies.
