Overview

What is the power of a museum to not just look at the past or present, but drive social and cultural change? The Museum of Art, Architecture and Technology (MAAT) was founded in 2016 as an institution inspiring discourse and creativity around the "historical present" and the common future.

The exhibitions, collections, events and workshops explore the ways we artistically imagine, architecturally inhabit and technologically create our world. While it fosters international discourse and draws in artists and thinkers from all over the world, the core collections it holds are focused on Portuguese contemporary artists and the history and development of electricity in Portugal.

It's a museum that doesn't work in clear categories: sometimes archaeology and archives, sometimes new artist prize showcases or photography exhibitions or mixed media collections of lesser-known artmaking. Whatever the form, MAAT makes meaning from it.
