This Just In: Fishbowl Has Rebranded — Now Thisbowl, the Bondi-Born Chain Is Celebrating Ten Years With $10 Bowls Nationwide
Ten years after opening its first Bondi store, the beloved bowl chain is getting a fresh name and a new chapter.
Ten years after it started tossing kingfish into salad bowls in Bondi, Fishbowl is changing its name. The chain is now Thisbowl, starting with the reopening of its Bondi Beach flagship. Then, by mid-October, over 60 stores across New South Wales, Victoria and Queensland will carry the new name.
What prompted the change? The answer is actually rather simple. When Fishbowl opened in 2016, the menu centred on fish, with just three proteins on offer: kingfish, salmon and tuna. Over the years, the menu has grown to include beef, chicken, tofu and eggplant — with salmon now the only seafood still being served. So, the new name keeps the brand's DNA while dropping the idea that it only does fruit of the sea.
"When we launched in New York, we changed the name to Thisbowl. Because that's the whole idea: There's a bowl for you, whoever you are, whatever you're craving. Fishbowl is where we started. Thisbowl is where we've arrived, and we have much more coming," says Nathan Dalah, who co-founded the business alongside Nic Pestalozzi and Casper Ettelson.

To enter its new era, Thisbowl is relaunching its Bondi Beach flagship on Saturday, September 26, with $10 house-favourite bowls all day. Redesigned by Studio Gram, the store will now offer double the space — spanning inside and outdoor areas — with an urban-meets-beach concept. Think terrazzo floors, reflective ceilings, walnut burl accents, stainless steel finishes and custom detailing throughout.
However, Thisbowl isn't celebrating the occasion alone. There will also be an exclusive soft serve collaboration with Gelato Messina, tenth-anniversary merch by Bondi label Motorino and house sodas inspired by florist September Studios. Looking ahead, little else is changing: the scribbled fish logo isn't going anywhere, nor is the build-your-own bowl format. And for those who can't make it to Bondi, Thisbowl's birthday celebration is happening nationwide on Saturday, October 10, featuring $10 house-favourite bowls.
"Launching Thisbowl in Bondi feels like such a true homecoming. From day one, it's been our goal to create something that combines art, design, music, movement, fashion and food," adds Pestalozzi. "So it feels really special to share that with our mates at Messina, Motorino, and September Studios who have been there along the way."
