UNEARTH ANCIENT GREEK TREASURES ON A MUSEUM DATE

If you fancy spending some time with your boo nerding out over your shared love of history, then we've found the exhibition for you. Open Horizons: Ancient Greek Journeys and Connections is now showing at Melbourne Museum and it's chock full of ancient works dating back to the early bronze age.

Co-created and presented with the National Archaeological Museum in Athens, the Aussie-first showcase features 44 ancient pieces — none of which have ever made it Down Under before. Among them, you'll catch a glimpse of the gold Theseus ring, which dates back to the 15th century BCE, as well as a 2500-year-old marble sphinx that depicts a female head with the body of a winged lion.

WOO THEM WITH (BULK) CHOCOLATE

Keen to show your date your sweet side? This month, all you need to do is jump in the car and check out the Yarra Valley Rocky Road Festival, which is happening at the Yarra Valley Chocolaterie and Ice Creamery, Mornington Peninsula Chocolaterie and Great Ocean Road Chocolaterie until May 31.

Here, the two of you can sink your sweet tooth into a mind-boggling 31 different varieties of rocky road, including flavours inspired by the likes of Golden Gaytime, espresso martini and black forest. If you like a bit of variety when it comes to your chocolate scoffing, there are 45-minute Rock Around the Block tasting workshops happening throughout the week. And for a cosy end to your romantic day out, why not settle in to warm your mitts with a couple of rocky road hot chocolates before the trip home?

FLIRT OVER FRUIT AND FIZZ AT A CIDER FESTIVAL

If the apple of your eye has a thing for cider — sweet, dry or otherwise — we reckon they'll be chuffed with a little trip to the College Lawn this weekend. The Prahran pub is tapping into those crisp autumn feels by hosting a three-day cider festival, from Friday, May 20–Sunday, May 22.

At the bar, you'll find a hefty offering of local and interstate ciders, including drops from the likes of Pipsqueak, Willie Smith, Custard & Co; which you can enjoy while kicking back on hay bales and picnic blankets in the beer garden. There'll also be mulled cider, cider-infused cocktails and live tunes playing through the weekend. And you won't want to miss the roast pork from the spit, served piled into a soft bap roll alongside an apple and fennel slaw.

SHARE A GIN OR FIVE AT A DESTINATION DISTILLERY

Got a gin fanatic for a plus one? Take them on a sojourn out to Four Pillars' newly revamped 1000-square-metre sprawling Helensville distillery and soak up the sunshine in their indoor-outdoor gin garden.

While you're there, get the conversation flowing with a 55-minute gin tasting in the distillery's private mezzanine, which includes a signature G&T on arrival, followed by a tasting of five of their award-winning gins. It will only set you back $50 a head and allow you to enjoy the stunning impact of the hefty $7 million makeover from a prime spot — plus will score you $25 any gin purchase. Afterwards, take a wander around the aforementioned Jude's Gin Garden — which overlooks leafy trees and has sliding floor-to-ceiling windows to let the outside in, multiple new event and function rooms, a dedicated gin shop and the new gleaming new copper bar.cp-line

ONE BIG BLOWOUT

ESCAPE THE CITY FOR A WINE-FILLED WEEKEND

If a good ol' weekend getaway is on the cards for you and your SO, then this is the ideal weekend to pack your bags and venture out to Mansfield, around 180 kilometres northeast of the CBD. From May 13–15, the region's famed Delatite Winery is hosting its inaugural Harvest Moon Festival, promising to reenergise your mind, body and soul with a jam-packed program of fun.

Jump on the website and plot your ultimate weekend escape — there'll be yoga among the vines, hot air balloon rides, meditation sessions and seminars, plus plenty of wine tasting, local produce markets and food trucks. And if your date is a fellow foodie, you can also indulge in some fine dining with a fire-roasted feast by Pope Joan's Bente Grysbaek.
