Overview

Amid a sea of big-hype hazy IPAs and trendster lactose brews, craft brewery Future Mountain is happily embracing the old world. Housed in a former mechanics shed in Reservoir, the brewery and its taproom are dedicated to farmhouse and barrel-aged beers, with a soft spot for creating sips that are natural, seasonal and hyperlocal. And, having been named Champion Brewpub of Australia at the 2021 Independent Beer Awards, it seems that formula is a winner.

Launched in early 2019, the taproom boasts an old-meets-new industrial space, where you can sip house creations while seated amongst hefty oak barrels, enjoying views into the fermentation room and lab. Twelve beer taps pour a rotation of both seasonal and small-batch drops, from the aromatic Constant State saison to the likes of a barrel-aged golden sour spiked with nectarine. Some beers only make an exclusive appearance here at the bar, and you can always be sure of something new to taste every time you visit.

Another two taps showcase a curation of Victorian wines, while the new Field Kitchen is currently hosting a roster of emerging local chef talent and their finest drinking snacks. Throw in a pool table, dart board, tasting paddles and — soon — brewery tours, and you've got yourself one heck of a beer-sipping destination. An award-winning one, at that.
