Snag a cosy table for four — and a free bottle of wine — at one of these lively restaurants best suited for meeting new mates.

If you thought deciding where to go for dinner with your significant other was difficult, try organising a date with another couple entirely. Oof. But if you've been fortunate enough to hit it off with another duo, you're probably eager to solidify your double couple hangs with a stellar night of food and booze. So, as well as taking all tastes into consideration, you need somewhere that's fun and lively, but not too loud that a conversation can't carry across a four-person table.

Fortunately, we know five places that are perfect for a double date. And where you can score a complimentary bottle of wine as part of the Citibank Dining Program. Simply head to any of the following spots, mention the offer upon arrival, pay using your Citi card, and voila — you'll not only have saved a few dollars, but probably secured a second date, too.

If you’ve had the privilege of visiting St Kilda’s Tulum, you’ve been lucky enough to have sampled chef Murat Ovaz’s incredible Turkish cuisine. Yagiz is Ovaz’s first solo venture as he sets out to create a dining experience that matches first-rate cooking with a typically unpretentious Turkish vibe.

Across a 60-seat dining room with more space at the bar, there are plenty of tables for your intimate dinner party to chat late into the night. Settle in for modern Turkish cuisine, and a bottle of Coombe Farm chardonnay or McW 480 Hilltops shiraz, which both come on the house when you present your Citi card.

    Burma Lane - CLOSED

Emerging from a pop-up restaurant at the 2013 Melbourne Food and Wine Festival, Burma Lane has since become one of the city’s most beloved places for those seeking a serious helping of Pan-Asian cuisine. Reflecting the melting pot of cultures from modern-day Burma, the restaurant features a seasonal menu that takes hints from numerous culinary cities around the world. Diners can look forward to the likes of salmon tacos, smoked chicken wings and five spice pork belly, plus Burmese tofu with smashed tomatoes and duck with shiitake doughnuts and sour cherry.

Experience this incredible mashup of flavours as you go à la carte or decide on one of Burma Lane’s six increasingly bountiful banquet menus. And when you use your Citi card, you’ll have to make a tough decision between a complimentary bottle of either the McW Alternis tempranillo or its vermentino.

    Massi

Named after chef Joseph Vargetto’s youngest son, Massi represents both the closeness of his family and his distinctly Sicilian heritage. Seating up to 50 diners, the Little Collins Street restaurant provides an intimate alternative to Vargetto’s popular Mister Bianco in Kew. As well as a thoughtful array of coffee, cakes and cold meats, there’s also a range of delicious Southern Italian pasta dishes and mains that’ll ensure your dinner group leaves everyone completely satisfied.

If you’d like to start the festivities early, Massi hosts a daily Apertivo Hour at 4.30pm where you can enjoy a late-afternoon hangout just as the Italians do. You can also enjoy a fine bottle of wine like the Italians do, as you’re welcome to a bottle of Coombe Farm pinot noir or Nobody’s Hero pinot gris on Citi when you present your card.

    Kumo

If you’re after a cosy setting that doesn’t sacrifice the atmosphere, Kumo is just the place. Showcasing the very best of Japanese-style pub cuisine, the eatery isn’t stuck in the past as head chef Seung Yeop Ryu thoughtfully combines classic Japanese flavours with elements from Southeast Asia, Korean and Chinese street cuisine.

This izakaya is a great spot for small groups as dishes fly out intermittently with the intention of being shared and paired with plenty of drinks. In this case, let Citi handle the wine as you net yourself a free bottle of McW Alternis vermentino or Partisan by Jove tempranillo just by laying down your card.

This Melbourne spot is inspired by the landmark Parisian steakhouse, Le Relais De L’Entrecôte. Overlooking the Royal Botanic Gardens, Entrecôte has a similar timeless quality to the original thanks to its location within the Grand Old Dame. The signature dish at Entrecôte is steak frites, which highlights the Cape Grim pasture-fed Porterhouse and is always perfectly chargrilled and layered with a secret herb and butter sauce. It’s all served alongside bottomless chips and a petite salad, making for a hearty meal.

Entrecôte’s lively atmosphere is bound to keep the chat going, not to mention the bottle of Coombe Farm pinot noir or chardonnay you receive when you pay with your trusty Citi card.
