We all love a good wine crawl, touring regional vineyards to sip and snack a weekend away. And Morris of Rutherglen has always been a decent spot to add to a High Country getaway, having made fortified wines since 1859.

But now that it just unveiled a multi-million-dollar renovation, it's got to be one of the region's best — especially as you can drop by to taste not only the team's fortified wines but also its newer single-malt whiskies.

The new atrium-style cellar door boasts a large wrap-around bar and tasting room that looks out on its century-old wine barrels and recently landscaped outdoor area — which is primed for summertime sips. It's even got interactive exhibitions showing visitors how fortified wine and whisky are made.

A more subtle — but no less significant — part of the makeover is the restoration of the original 1930s copper stills, as well as the establishment of a new program for repurposing local wine barrels to age and finish the whisky.

"We are thrilled to unveil the newly renovated cellar door and whisky distillery to the local community and visitors to the region," shares Morris of Rutherglen's Micheal Sergeant.

"This project represents our ongoing commitment to excellence and innovation while staying true to the heritage and tradition that has defined Morris for generations."

You can either book ahead for tours and tastings, or simply drop in during its opening hours to sample some of its top tawnies, muscats and whiskies.
