Flinders Lane Gallery

Overview

Sonia Heitlinger founded Flinders Lane Gallery in 1989, building its early reputation on the work of Indigenous artists from Yuendumu and Utopia in the Northern Territory. Claire Harris has directed the gallery since 2006, and it now works with artists at every stage of their careers, from first-time exhibitors to established names with pieces in public and private collections worldwide.

The gallery occupies Level One of the Nicholas Building on Flinders Lane, a heritage creative hub that's housed artists, makers and independent businesses for more than a century. Its program spans representational painting, abstraction, drawing, photography, printmaking and sculpture, alongside a First Nations stockroom. It also offers custom art consultations for collectors, architects and designers building out a space.

Artists shown across the gallery's history include Gloria Petyarre, Agneta Ekholm and Marise Maas, with current names spanning Elizabeth Barnett, Jacob Leary, Nat Ward, Chelsea Gustafsson, Lucy Ray and Margaret Ackland.
