Overview

The Merri Creek Trail is a popular walking, running, biking and strolling track for many northside Melburnians. It's also home to collared sparrowhawks, eastern rosellas and plenty of ducks. You'll be pacing along Wurundjeri Country and it's a route full of nature. There are plenty of places to stop along the way — including community gardens, cafes and swimming pools.

At 21 kilometres long, the trail extends from Dights Falls and the Capital City Trail in the south, to Western Ring Road in the north. The best part? You can tackle it all without crossing a single road. Follow the creek and pass the Coburg Lake Reserve, the Brunswick Velodrome and CERES Community Park, as well as garden spots, horse paddocks and sports ovals. Whether you head here on two wheels or two legs, there are a number of charming picnic spots along the trail that are perfect for a pitstop. Our tip: throw down a rug at the northern end, near the lush greens of Coburg Lake, and enjoy the serenity.
