Much-Loved Ice Cream Company Ben and Jerry's Has Opened a Scoop Shop in Wellington
You can now pick up chunk-filled ice cream and gooey fudge brownies on Cuba Street.
Following the mighty Duck Island's arrival on Cuba Street, another big name ice cream producer has landed in the capital.
Global ice cream company Ben & Jerry's already holds six permanent locations across New Zealand. Following a successful pop-up scoop shop at Wellington Airport, the chunk-filled ice cream maker has now launched its first bricks and mortar location in the central city. Originally scheduled to open last November, the store can now be found at 94 Cuba Street as part of what the company is calling "a newly developed heritage building." It's run by owner-operators Nick and Mel Sunseri, who relocated from Frankton to operate the ice cream scoops.
If you're unaware of the ice cream sensation — it launched out of a renovated petrol station in Vermont in the 1970s. The trademark chunk textures that come mixed within the ice cream came from founder Ben Cohen's severe case of anosmia, a disorder that results in the lack of smell or taste. Fortunately fellow co-founder Jerry Greenfield was on hand to look after the all important factor of taste.
While bizarre flavours like 'Schweddy Balls' and 'Dave Matthews Band' sure do sound promising, several more conventional varieties can be expected at the Wellington branch, including 'Strawberry Cheesecake', 'Choc Chip Cookie Dough', 'English Toffee Crunch' and 'Triple Caramel Chunk'. As well as getting your hands on the famed chunk-filled ice cream, visitors will be able to pick up gooey fudge brownies and over-the-top creations like the new 'Dough-Licious Pizza'.
