Overview
Built in 1889, the Queens is another of Perth's 19th-century beauties fusing contemporary style with heritage features seamlessly. Its traditional corrugated iron roof, expansive timber verandahs and sun-dappled outdoor terrace give character to buzzing Beaufort Street.
And just like any tried-and-true tavern, it knows how to do a steak. On Wednesdays, 20 bucks scores you a 300-gram porterhouse with beer-battered chips, salad and your choice of sauce — red wine jus, pepper or mushroom — all day long. If steak's not your thing, you'll find plenty of other hearty options on the large plates menu, including crispy skin barramundi with lemon and caper mash, steamed greens and blue swimmer crab butter ($28).
For snackers and sharers, there are small plates such as wild mushroom bruschetta with pan-fried wild mushrooms, goat's cheese and truffle oil ($14). All of Australia's favourite craft brews are on tap here, as well as a more little-known concoction chosen by Brewer's Loft on monthly rotation, while the wine list includes a "posh" section at cellar-door prices.
