Overview
Double Bay, as many would have you believe, has long been starved of a healthy bar scene. Mrs Sippy, however, presents an argument to the contrary, offering the inner east a lively coffee/restaurant/bar combo. Even on the tail end of winter, this place oozes 'summer fling' by enticing one with light meals, juicy cocktails and neon-trimmed furnishings.
As eclectic as the crowd it draws, Mrs Sippy's menu offers a diverse range of meals catering to a broad range of tastes and budgets. If you're looking for a light appetiser try the fried baby calamari with chilli, garlic and zucchini ($19) or a chorizo, caramelised fennel, basil and goats cheese pizza ($25). Head into the front diner-style restaurant and claim a seat on the giant brown leather couch that dominates the long room and you're set.
For those after a heftier feed, Mrs Sippy's restaurant must tries include: the signature cheeseburger ($18), the haloumi, roasted beetroot, artichoke and cherry tomato salad ($23) as well as the oven roasted spatchcock with lemon thyme and lentil salad ($32). You won't be short of choice when it comes to beverages either, with over 20 wines on offer by the glass ($8-$24) and a seven page by-the-bottle menu, this is most definitely an avenue worth exploring.
Mrs Sippy's bar is a popular weekend destination too, with a live DJ catering to partygoers' Friday night kickoff. By 10pm on the rooftop, you'll find daters gathered under open air and larger groups comfortably bunked down at tables and chairs under cover. For an evening's good time sans long lines and surly bouncers, Mrs Sippy's the inner eastie's golden ticket.
