Overview
Feeling lucky, punk? Concrete Playground and Sydney Contemporary are giving you the chance to win a hand-signed, original Perspective Scarf by renowned contemporary Chinese artist and political activist Ai Weiwei.
Produced in conjunction with Melbourne-based purveyor of museum shop delights Third Drawer Down, the square, silk scarf features an image taken from Ai's Study of Perspective series. The works feature the artist's hand flipping the bird to major international landmarks and artworks (Tiananmen Square, the Mona Lisa, and the White House, to name a few).
Ai Weiwei has received international acclaim for his artworks across a wide range of media. His pieces reside in many of the world's best museums and galleries. A very outspoken critic of the Chinese Government, he was secretly detained by police at Beijing Capital International Airport as he went to board a flight to Hong Kong in 2011. The artist was held for 81 days without any official justification being given before being released on bail for fabricated charges of tax evasion. His passport was never returned and he remains unable to leave China.
In addition to this painfully cool item, we're also throwing in two VIP, all-access passes to the Sydney Contemporary Art Fair. Opening on the evening of the 19 September, the inaugural edition of Sydney's international art fair will then run from 20 to 22 September at Carriageworks.
One lucky reader will win the signed scarf and two VIP Sydney Contemporary Art Fair passes. To be in the running, make sure you're subscribed to the Concrete Playground newsletter and then email hello@concreteplayground.com.au with your name and address.
