And just like that, we're already halfway through spring. Before you know it, those breezy, mildly warm days will disappear and usher in the oft-unbearable heat of summer — so we recommend making the most of the outdoor fun while you can still bear to be without air conditioning for longer than a few minutes. As its Spring Carnival continues, we've teamed up with Australian Turf Club to bring you five top-notch ways to celebrate the season this week.
EAT YOUR WAY AROUND THIS LOWER NORTH SHORE FOOD MARKET
When? Thursday, October 24
Whether you're looking for something to eat or drink after a hectic day at the office, you're keen on doing a spot of after-work browsing and buying, you might want to mosey along to Mosman's OctoberFeast Night Market. Alongside market stalls hawking clothes, jewellery, homewares and other handcrafted goods, you can also expect live tunes and a host of food and drink options — think Nepalese, Spanish and Vietnamese as a start. Better yet, entry is free.
WATCH A FLICK WITH A DRINK IN HAND AT THIS OUTDOOR CINEMA
When? Thursday, October 24
Balmy spring nights, classic flicks and botanical-driven cocktails. If that sounds like your kind of midweek situation, you're going to want to snap up tickets to this week's Canvas Cinema event. The Golden Sheaf in Double Bay is hosting outdoor cinema screening in its fairy-light lit upstairs Canopy Bar — and tickets are just $10. This week you can catch seminal hit Almost Famous from a plush velvet couch with an inventive G&T in hand.
SIP BUBBLES BY THE POOL AT CITY TATTERSALLS CLUB CUP RACE DAY
When? Saturday, October 26
We're now on the home straight for the biggest racing event of the year, Melbourne Cup, and if you're wanting to get in the mood for all the festivities that'll take place, make a visit to Royal Randwick this weekend for the City Tattersalls Club Cup Day. Saturday marks the launch of the inaugural Bondi Stakes and there'll be plenty of action happening alongside it. To really encourage those springtime vibes, nab a spot by the pool at Randwick's newest general admission offering, Pony Palms. The Palm Springs-inspired trackside oasis will be buzzing with drinks, DJ sets and more.
CATCH SOME SEASIDE ART AT SCULPTURE BY THE SEA
When? Thursday, October 24–Sunday, November 10
Yep, it's about that time again. One of Sydney's favourite art events returns this week for its 23rd year — and potentially its last at Bondi. Kicking off on Thursday, October 24, Sculpture by the Sea will feature over 100 epic pieces from both Australian and international artists. And we can't wait to see what will be unveiled along the two kilometres of coastal track that links Bondi and Tamarama beaches.
CELEBRATE THE CLASSIC SPRING SUMMER DRINK AT THIS ALL-DAY WINE TASTING
When? Sunday, October 27
The salutes to the pink drink continue this week with Watsons Bay Boutique Hotel dedicating an entire day to all things rosé. There'll be over 20 wineries and suppliers offering sips of their best drops, plus a frosé bar, a pink-themed dessert cart and plenty of live entertainment. Tickets cost $32 and include nine wine tokens and a tasting glass for all your taste-testing requirements.
Everest Carnival runs until November 2 at Rosehill Gardens and Royal Randwick. For more information, head this way.
