Overview
Passion Pit's rise to fame has been a rather rapid one. On Valentine's Day just three years ago, Passion Pit's lead singer and driving creative force, Michael Angelakos, penned a collection of songs for his girlfriend to make up for being a less-than-perfect boyfriend. After some convincing from Ian Hultquist, their keyboard/synth guy, Angelakos turned his one-man dorm room production into a five piece band named after what is Hollywood slang for that tucked-away corner of a drive-in cinema where teenagers go to get frisky. Passion Pit went on to release one of the most notable debut records of the last decade in Manners, which included the anthemic electro-pop hits Sleepyhead, Little Secrets and The Reeling.
We caught up with them in Sydney after seeing their live show blow away crowds at Splendour in the Grass and The Forum to talk about their rise to musical stardom and what it is like to be a band trying to learn your own hit songs.
