Overview
Halloween came to this country so late that it's not so much a brother to its American counterpart, but more of a distant cousin who rarely keeps in touch. We've taken most of the superstition and spookiness out of the day, and us adults have claimed it for our own. It's unsurprising then, that Halloween weekend marks the grown ups fancy dress occasion of the year — when else can you dress up as a cool ghost and blow the froth off a few cold ones?
There is a huge amount of amazingly creepy events going on around town this weekend, but the question remains, who has the best beats? The slickest 'stumes? The best brews? In an attempt to provide you with the answers you so desperately deserve, we've put together our picks of where to get your ghostly groove on this weekend.

Maybe all the Halloween activities and events are just too much. Maybe you just want to get dressed up and get down. If this is the case, in might be worth heading over to Freda’s on Saturday night. The Chippo hot spot will be hosting local and international DJs like Mancunian producer Earl Grey, plus their own house band will be taking the stage to bust out the tunes.
Don’t forget to keep in step with the theme and don your creepiest attire, so you can freak people out while you get your freak on.

You know what’s better than a haunted house? A haunted hotel. You know what’s better than a haunted hotel? A massive bloody party inside a haunted hotel. We can only assume that this was the reasoning behind the second coming of Harpoon Harry‘s Horror Hotel.
This year, they’ve teamed up with photography collective Hobogestapo to transform the entirety of the Surry Hills venue into a wicked party, packed with spooky trimmings. Featuring music from Frames and Hobogestapo’s very own Hobophonics — and with costuming being described as essential — this should be one ghoulish get-down. Doors will be open from 8pm.
