Four Bars to Hit Post-Match to Celebrate a Victory

Head to these Sydney spots for some celebratory kick ons after kick off.
When you've played your hardest and your team has scored a win, the last thing you want to do is go home and sleep. You need to take all that positive energy from the field to the pub. There's no question, beer tastes better when you've earned it. To celebrate the triumph the right way you'll need to decide on a spot for celebratory kick ons before kick off. As Louis Pasteur said: "Fortune favours a prepared mind."
To give you a helping hand, we've teamed up with Heineken to find Sydney's prime spots for post-match shenanigans. Wherever you live in this mighty metropolis, there's a bar awaiting you — with friendly vibes (even among the defeated) and, more importantly, ice-cold Heineken 3s. Go forth, victors, and celebrate rightfully.

Another laidback, sports-loving spot in Paddo is The London. Like the Bellevue, it’s been entertaining drinkers for more than 130 years. You’ll find it tucked away from Oxford Street along the quiet and secluded Underwood Street. As soon as you step into the main bar, though, you’ll be surrounded by post-game partiers. Out the back is a courtyard which is dotted with greenery and some obligatory Union Jacks. The menu offers pizzas ($14–24), generous mains such as whole chargrilled chicken ($34), and share plates including barbecue-glazed pork belly skewers ($17).

Another pub where your victory bash will involve scenic surrounds is The Newport. Boasting the largest waterfront beer garden in Australia, this northern beaches institution provides panoramic Pittwater views along with your pint. The Newport’s been open since 1880, but when heaving hospo empire Merivale took over in 2016, some extraordinary landscaping took place. Hemmes and his team transformed the garden into a botanical oasis of flowering shrubs, jacarandas, wild cacti and succulents — so you can enjoy your post-match bevvie surrounded by pretty petals with your whole crew of friends and family.

This neighbourhood pub is one of Paddington’s most affable and easy-going venues. That’s probably why it’s been welcoming local carousers since the 1800s. To be with them — and other smug fans — claim a bar stool among the bright white walls of the public bar, where matches are broadcast live. Alternatively, head upstairs to visit the sun-splashed outdoor terrace. If all the excitement has made you hungry, check out the bar menu which offers all the classics: burgers ($19–24), steaks ($26) and chicken schnitties ($20). If you’re feeling fancy, head to the pub’s restaurant and enjoy upscale dishes like beef cheek bourguignon with smoked mash ($34).

What better way to celebrate a victory (or up your spirits after a loss) than beachfront, in the sun. Just a few sandy shakes away from the water’s edge, this beachside bar boasts views, vibes and brews to suit your post-match celebrations. There’s no dress code, so you can rock up in your gear (though we’d recommend changing if it was a particularly gruelling — and sweaty — game). Grab a spot in the sun with the team, grab a bucket or two of beers, some polenta and fennel-crusted squid or fish tacos and settle in to refuel and take in the ocean views and Bondi vibes.
Plan your next afternoon arvo out — all you need to do is rally the troops, choose a venue and order a round of Heineken 3.
