Taiwanese comfort food gets a Sydney cafe makeover, with a must-order dan bing.

Overview

Sydney has plenty of places doing Taiwanese food, but Meet Taiwan approaches it from the perspective of a cafe. Husband-and-wife team Judy and Johnny started the business as a food truck before opening their Bexley cafe, combining the Taiwanese food Johnny grew up eating with the brunch culture Judy was more familiar with.

That means you can come in for a dan bing (Taiwanese egg crepe) or settle in for a bowl of lu rou fan, braised beef noodles, or Taiwanese fried chicken. The dan bing is my pick, particularly with cheese, corn, and hash brown tucked inside. It comes out golden, soft, and crisp at the edges, with plenty of filling packed into the middle. Beyond breakfast, there's lu rou fan with slow-cooked pork, braised beef noodles, and Taiwanese fried chicken.
