Overview

It'll be astounding. Time will feel fleeting. And nothing will ever be the same. When Beyond Cinema takes on The Rocky Horror Picture Show at its next big immersive screening, you'll experience the horror-comedy musical in a whole new fashion — while taking a jump to the left and then a step to the right, naturally.

Don some fishnets, suspenders and sequins, pretend you've just been stranded outside an old castle and prepare to meet Transylvania's most famous mad scientist — and get ready to sing and dance along, too. Event screenings of The Rocky Horror Picture Show have been happening for decades, of course, combining all of the above. But when Beyond Cinema works its magic with Jim Sharman's cult hit, you know it'll step everything up more than a few notches.

First, you'll arrive at Leichhardt Town Hall (a fittingly palatial building, constructed back in 1888) like Brad and Janet, then meet Dr Frank-N-Furter and his friends Riff Raff, Magenta, Columbia and Eddie. Tunes like 'The Time Warp', 'Sweet Transvestite' and 'Science Fiction/Double Feature' will be involved, obviously. After you're done making shapes with Transylvanians, you'll sit down to watch the 1975 movie that started a pop culture phenomenon — and, after that, you'll party away into the night.

Two sessions are being held, at 1pm and 6.30pm on Saturday, March 21 — so you can decide whether to enjoy a mind flip during the afternoon or evening. The after-party for both screenings kicks off at 9pm, and dressing up for the whole event is strongly encouraged. So is bringing your wallet for the cash bar.
