Overview

The French know how to serve up a damn good meal. They also, by the sound of it, organise a pretty sweet festival. The Bleu Blanc Rouge French Festival is a tribute to France's national day, Bastille Day, which falls on July 14. Festivities run from the weekend of July 11-13 at Customs House Square in Circular Quay. The festival celebrates the many arenas that the French hold dear to their cultural identity. There's live music concerts, DJs, cabaret and open-air movie screenings.

But let's get to what really brought you to this page: the culinary delight that is French cuisine. Cooking courses, headed by Emmanuel Mollois (from ABC's Poh's Kitchen), will give you the opportunity to channel your inner chef.

If cooking isn't your thing, you can take advantage of someone else's culinary skills by picking up some French goodies at the festival village market stalls. We're talking French cheese, wines, bread, pastries, crepes and chocolate. Not to mention a little jus d'orange, boeuf, soup du jour, le camembert, Jacques Cousteau, baguette, mais oui.
