UPDATE OCTOBER 11: The Free Tree Giveaway has been postposed due to Sydney's lockdown. You can register to be notified when the trees become available again via the NSW Government website.
Keen to make your life and space a little greener? Once again, the New South Wales Government has a stack of free trees up for grabs. This time, it's teaming up with the folks at Bunnings Warehouse to encourage residents to help reach its target of planting one million new trees by 2022.
More than 25,000 free trees will be available to households across all 33 of Greater Sydney's local government areas, with the giveaway running from June–October. Different trees will be on offer each month, kicking off this month with a lineup of shade and privacy trees including bottlebrush and lilly pilly varieties.
You'll need to hop onto the NSW Government website to see exactly what's available and to register for your freebies. Once you've placed an order, you'll have seven days to collect it from your local Bunnings store — there are over 40 participating outposts to choose from.
You can only apply once in 2021, so unfortunately you won't be able to fill your yard with freebies each and every month. Still, both edible and non-edible types of trees will be available, so you could be adding some food to your garden, which is quite the win.
