John Robenstone: In the Time of Hope
Never been a more poignant time to re-examine the American dream.
Overview
With the American political system in a state of flux, and the Obama years coming to an end, John Robenstone's latest exhibition, In the Time of Hope, could not be better timed.
The Melbourne-based photographer moved to Los Angeles in 2008 and spent the first years of the Obama presidency capturing daily life on the city's streets. The result is a moving collection that shows American society in all its complexity and probes the idea of the American dream, as vibrant colours contrast with decaying roads, littered streets, and rundown motels. A testament to photography's power to capture complex realities, this exhibit is an absolute must-see.
In the Time of Hope runs November 22 to December 4. Opening night November 24 6-9pm.
