Overview

Reckon you know everything there is to know about the mighty martini? Had it dirty, dry, perfect, shaken, stirred? Get down to Eau de Vie during World Class Cocktail Week to find out that you don’t know what you don’t know.

At a masterclass to be hosted on May 27, the secretive bar’s martini experts will carry you through the cocktail’s long and wicked history — from the myths surrounding its origins (did it evolve from a cocktail served up at San Francisco’s Occidental Hotel in the 1860s? Or was it invented 50 years later in New York City?) to Dorothy Parker’s versification “I like to have a martini, two at the very most; after three I’m under the table; after four, I’m under the host.”

Along the way, there’ll be sterling silver martini syringes, Tiffany vermouth dispensers and martini scales. There’s no end to the lengths mixologists have gone to in search of the dream martini.
