Overview

ARTBAR is the MCA's after-hours offering for those who like their art with a soundtrack and a bar. It had its second birthday in May, celebrating two years of Friday night art, music and performance with a fancy display of bright lights and projections curated by Ross Manning.

August's ARTBAR is a Primavera edition, presaging the exhibition of new Australian voices in art that will open in September. Primavera artists Nick Dorey and Hossein Ghaemi are curating a night of video works, performance, workshops and a dedicated rave space.

The MCA has definitely got a good thing going with ARTBAR. There's a general consensus that art is cool, but doing it all with a glass of red in hand and a DJ in the background is that little bit cooler. Fortunately, everyone's favourite cultured night out since Jurassic Lounge ended isn't going anywhere, with monthly happenings planned for the rest of the year.
