Mike Daisy: The Agony and the Ecstasy of Steve Jobs

Overview

Recently departed Apple CEO Steve Jobs steered Apple from close to bankruptcy to being a titan of modern computing. His work has more fans than detractors these days — fans like Stephen Fry and Mike Daisey. Daisey is a storyteller, writer and a radio contributor. Daisey loves stuff made by Apple and Jobs. But he also has a lot of trouble with the way factory workers get treated in China by one of Apple's main manufacturers, Foxconn. When he read an article about suicides at the Foxconn plant, he made it the theme of his next show, The Agony and the Ecstasy of Steve Jobs, which bring these loves and troubles to the stage.

The people who make our gadgets work incredibly hard and were sometimes found to be awfully young. Daisey doesn't want you to stop using the shiny toys that Apple makes (or, indeed, those from Dell or Nokia or any other of the many companies making things with Foxconn); he wants you to care about the people who make them. After his stage show, it'll be hard not to. And you might also find that you, too, have something to say.
