Ritz Laneway Cinema — CANCELLED
Watch new and classic films under the stars.
Overview
UPDATE: APRIL 1, 2020 — Due to government restrictions on public gatherings, Ritz Cinema is temporarily closed and the Ritz Laneway Cinema event has been cancelled. All ticketholders should receive an automatic refund via original method of payment. For bookings made in person, contact the box office.
Taking advantage of the summer weather, Randwick's Ritz Cinema is sending cinema-goers outside for the next few months. You can still see a film indoors, of course — or you can opt for a movie under the stars at the brand new Ritz Laneway Cinema.
Popping up in the laneway behind the art deco picture palace, Ritz Laneway Cinema will screen both new films and old favourites on very Thursday, Friday, and Saturday nights between Friday, December 20 and the end of April. Movie buffs will sit in directors chairs, grab snacks from a dedicated laneway bar, put on headsets to listen in and, of course, stare up at the big screen. If the evening air gets a little chilly, you'll also be able to borrow a blanket.
Kicking off the season is one of the biggest films of the year, with Star Wars: Episode IX — The Rise of Skywalker screening on both Friday, December 20 and Saturday, December 21. The singing felines of Cats, Taika Waititi's World War II satire Jojo Rabbit, Greta Gerwig's star-studded take on Little Women and blistering Australian film True History of the Kelly Gang are also on the bill, alongside classics such as 10 Things I Hate About You, Labyrinth, The Princess Bride and Do the Right Thing.
Tickets cost $20, or $12 for Ritz Royalty members — and sessions start at sundown.
