Overview

Internationally renowned British artist Tacita Dean is arriving on Australian soil with her first ever live performance work, Event for a Stage. Her piece will be shown exclusively at Carriageworks for the 19th
Biennale of Sydney
. A visual artist, Dean is using her knowledge of film to create a show that combines theatre and art.

The work is based around Dean filming the portrait of a performer, played by Royal Shakespeare Company and Game of Thrones actor Stephen Dillane. The audience is invited to look into Dean's filming process as she examines the psyche of the on-stage entertainer. The performance will take on another medium as well when ABC RN broadcasts Dean's work on the radio.

Dean will also participate in the Biennale's In Conversation series, where she will let the audience glimpse into the process of how she conceived and created her work. The talk takes place Sunday, May 4, from 2pm to 3pm.
