Overview
Whether it's your life, your heart or your wardrobe that's a mess, let self-described 'dedicated absurdist' Geoff Sobelle help you explore it in this surprising, saddening show. Part-installation, part-storytelling session, The Object Lesson begins by inviting you into a vast room, filled with cardboard boxes. Inside them, you discover pile after chaotic pile of objects, trinkets and souvenirs. They're an imagining of what you might collect over the course of a lifetime — were you to keep each and every object that crosses your path.
Using these items as a springboard and adopting a clown-like character, Sobelle relates a series of enchanting, thing-inspired tales. Drawing on humour, heartbreak and even a little bit of magic, his stories compel us to consider our relationship with objects — both past and present.
The Object Lesson scored the 2014 Carol Tambor Best of Edinburgh Award, which is the Edinburgh Fringe Festival's most prestigious award.
