The Napier Hotel has been a fixture of the inner north since 1866. Over many decades, it has served as a true community hub, a place for locals to gather and gab, drink and dine, rest and relax. With high-quality pub grub, a drinks list better than your standard local, and a cosy and inviting atmosphere, it's hard for locals to resist returning each and every weekend. While the pub has entered its next chapter under the operation of Baxter Pickard, it has retained its old-school character and community charm. Not trying to reinvent the wheel, the new operators intend to foster the foundations that have made the Napier such a long-standing success. Closer to the classic British pub than most, The Napier Hotel is a winner all year round — but it's the warm fire that makes this an excellent choice in the winter months. Pull up a pew at one of the big communal tables and settle in for a cosy night out with mates. Alternatively, grab a stool at the bar and chat with some Fitzroy characters or head to the covered terrace with industrial outdoor heaters. Get on the beers, making your way through the lengthy local draught options or get a glass of something nice from the surprisingly well-curated list of wines, 99 per cent of which happen to be Australian. It's always a difficult choice between the legendary steak sandwich and the chicken parma, which remains a crowd favourite. Kangaroo continues to feature prominently on the menu, from a grilled salad to the signature kangaroo parma, cementing the pub's commitment to championing native Australian produce. The Napier Hotel is well worn in the best way possible, but with new stewardship and refreshed energy, it's set to continue serving its beloved community for the next generation and many more to come.
