Overview
Summer has arrived for Sydneysiders. As the sweltering heat rolls in full-force, we all crave something cold to cool us down. And what better to do so than a glass of blended fruit goodness.
We have complied a list of Sydney's best smoothie spots. Whether Newtown, Surry Hills or Coogee is your stomping ground, we've got you covered.
Fruition
Where: Shop K2, 19-29 Martin Place, MLC Centre
Fresh fruit and vegetables burst out from behind the glass counter at Fruition. Tucked into Martin Place, Fruition promises fast service and a large smoothie selection. Take your yummy cup of deliciousness back to work or hang out for a bit in the food court.
You can make the smoothie of your dreams come true by choosing from 12 different flavours ($5.70) including the not-so-common paw paw and honey melon. And if you don't feel like coming up with your own concoction, Fruition has a menu that includes Tropicana, Blue Mango, Berry Bonanza and Strawberry Delight ($7). Ice cold and thick, they'll fill you up and cure that midday drag.
Pure Juice & Soup Bar Hunter Connection
Where: Hunter Connection, 310 George Street, Sydney
Unassuming and tucked under a stairway in Hunter Connection, Pure Juice and Soup bar serves up amazing smoothies. Perfectly blended, thick and cold, Pure Juice bar knows how to make a smoothie right. Also, their flavours rock. Transport yourself to a sunny beach vacation with the Beach Umbrella Smoothie ($5). Choose from a list of five dollar regular sized smoothies that includes Raspberry Rumba, Beach Umbrella, Strawberry Fields, Blue Aloha, and Tropical Sunrise. And for all of you looking for that extra boost, Pure Juice offers up Power Smoothies including Body Booster, Power up and Breakfast On The Run (banana, skim, muesli, strawberry, low-fat yoghurt, and ice).
Friendly service, big cup of deliciousness, and low prices. What could be better?
Sadhana Kitchen
Where: 76A Wilford Street, Newtown
Tucked away next to a yoga studio, Sadhana Kitchen is a smoothie-drinker and nutrition-lover's dream. Sadhana liteally means "a way of accomplishing something". Complete with a relaxed vibe and a sugar free, dairy free, wheat free, and guilt free menu, Sadhana Kitchen has the vitamin-packed smoothie for you.
Sadhana Kitchen is Sydney's first organic raw food cafe. The juice and smoothie menu is split into three mouth-watering categories: Superfood Smoothies ($9.50), Green Smoothies ($8.50), and Tonic Juices ($6.50-$9.50). We recommend the Warrior Smoothie ($9.50), which combines blueberries, raspberries, banana, sun warrior sprouted brown rice protein powder, chai seeds, coconut oil, mesquite, almond mylk, and ashwagans. Sound organic enough for you? Although it is a bit pricey, the colourful smoothies (served in mason jars with a handle) are worth every cent. And if you're still hungry and craving some solids, try the banana coconut pancakes ($15.50) drizzled with a sweet caramel sauce.
Goodlife Salad and Smoothie
Where: Shop G2, 61 King Street, Sydney
Goodlife is the perfect place to order a breakfast smoothie, sit back and watch the hub bub of the city at 9am. Service is fast and really friendly which is an added bonus to an already awesome establishment.
The banana, honey, yoghurt, and skim smoothie is recommended for breakfast ($5). Mild, creamy, with just the right amount of sweetness, it makes for a delicious start to the day. Goodlife also offers a variety of breakfast meals all day such as bacon and eggs ($5) and for lunch salads ($9) that sound every bit as delicious as the banana and honey smoothie. And, for all you vegetarians, Goodlife has you covered with a variety of salads and wraps that'll be sure to keep you satisfied.
Doolies Coffee And Juice
Where: Shop K109, Market City, Haymarket
In the wild and crazy chaos of Market City, comes the unexpected Doolies Coffee and Juice Bar to transport you to the delectable world of fresh fruits. Market City is not for the faint of heart, and neither are Doolies' flavours. Bursting with a tangy and refreshing punch, these smoothies are to die for.
I'm eternally thankful for the Tropical Dream Smoothie, as it is a sip of mango, orange and strawberry bliss in the sea of rushing shoppers on a Wednesday afternoon in Market City. Choose from a relatively large menu of Doolies Super Smoothies ($6.50-7), juice based smoothies ($5.50), or milk based smoothies ($5.50). Doolies offers toast ($2), and a selection of hot pies ($3.50-5). Doolies is not the answer if your looking for a quaint place to sip slowly on a smoothie, but the speedy service and mouth-watering taste is just what you'll need to keep you happy while shopping.
Coogee Kiosk
Where: Arden St, Coogee
Coogee Bay Kiosk is located right beside the beach and provides thirsty beach goers with an ice cold smoothie. Perfect for that hot day, the kiosk offers banana, strawberry, mango, and pineapple. Although, I was able to see the woman behind the counter whip up what looked (absolutely delicious) like a grapefruit smoothie. The barista added a bit of complimentary honey to my small strawberry smoothie ($5.50) and it was the perfect amount of sweet in an overall refreshing smoothie. The consistency is a bit thicker than your average smoothie, which makes it all the better for a hungry belly on a hot summer's day.
And, for those of you with a sweet tooth, you'll undoubtedly drool over the fantastic display of chocolate cupcakes.
Boom Banana
Where: 27 Oxford Street, Darlinghurst
Amidst the many shoppes and clubs of Oxford Street sits Boom Banana. This tiny gem of an establishment packs a lot of punch. Don't let their some-what dodgey exterior put you off. As their names alludes to, Boom Banana, serves up one heck of a banana smoothie. Don't take your time getting there. A late lunch won't due because Boom Banana closes their yellow door around three. So stop in for a midday liquid lunch or get there earlier for a smoothie and a bacon egg sandwich ($4.50).
Made to your liking with yoghurt or ice cream, the Boom Banana smoothie ($7) has egg, nutmeg, and banana inside and it is oh-so-good. The yoghurt suits those getting breakfast as it makes a thinner smoothie, but of course ice cream is always otherwise the preffered answer. There is no available seating, but that does not seem to drive customers away. In fact, it may be beneficial as hungry customers start eyeing your smoothie, ready to pounce.
Wowcow
Where: 280 King Street, Newtown or 308/304-310 Victoria St, Darlinghurst
Known for their 98% fat free 'super chilled yoghurt' Wowcow has more to offer than your average frozen yoghurt joint. With a complete list of smoothies (moothies, as they call it) this dessert cafe remains in our top pick for a refreshing smoothie, as well as one our choices for Sydney's top ice-cream joint. Born in Sydney’s northern beaches in 2006, Wowcow is Australia’s first super chilled yoghurt and dessert lounge.
Wowcow splits their smoothie menu into Choc Moothies and Fruit Moothies ($6.50). The Chocolate Banana Smoothie is lighter than you'd expect and perfect for those who need their daily dose of chocolate. Chocolate fiends: rejoice. More Choc Moothies include Chocolate Chip Cookie and Brownie mixture. If you're going for a strictly fruit drink Wowcow offers mango, strawberry, banana, berry, and passion fruit.
Pure Juice Bars
Where: 302-306 Elizabeth Street, Surry Hills
Not to get confused with Pure Juice and Soup Bar in Hunter Connection, Pure Juice is a great place for a good smoothie in Surry Hills. Equip with a full Acai Berry menu, you will be sure to find something you like. The Acai Berry Blitza ($5.95) combines organic acai, strawberries, mango, and apple juice. The medium size is more than enough and could potentially take the place of lunch. Pure Juice serves up a thick and flavourful smoothie. Just one shop over is the Pure Juice Espresso Bar, offering a full menu of espresso and coffee drinks. Get your acai nutrients and caffeine boost all in one stop.
