Now Open: Superfreak Is Marrickville's New All-Day Eatery From Two of the Minds Behind Soulmate and Splash Coffee
This ambitious new venture centred around nourishing meals for health-conscious diners has set up shop in the heart of Marrickville.
If you've recently been on a health kick — or you simply enjoy nourishing your body with nutritious meals — Superfreak is here to help. Daniel Harrison and Michael Ico, two of the crew that brought Soulmate and Splash Coffee to Sydney's food and drink scene, have just opened this all-day diner on Enmore Road that's dedicated to dishing up nourishing eats.
Appropriately, this health-forward eatery neighbours the Marrickville Scout Yoga & Pilates outpost, making it a convenient option for those seeking a quick and healthy post-workout fix. And for Ico and Harrison, it's perhaps their most ambitious project to date.
"We had the idea for a more nourishing cafe when we looked at what Marrickville was really doing with their time and where we think the suburb is heading," said co-owner Ico. "Superfreak is our most sophisticated project yet, and it's supposed to feel like an almost-otherworldly distraction from the everyday."
The vision for Superfreak's space is centred on an inviting feel with vintage adornments, a guiding ethos that's been brought to life by YSG Studios (whose portfolio includes Surry Hill's Four Pillars Gin Laboratory) via a sleek yet laidback fitout with clever touches of nostalgia dotted throughout.
As for the menu, each dish has been crafted through the lens of nutrition by Aplenty's Michaela Johanssen. Its offerings won't remain static and will continue to evolve with how patrons engage with the space.
"We're putting together an experienced team of chefs and baristas, as well as sourcing some of the best suppliers," said Harrison. "We're also opening the doors during the depths of Sydney's winter because our location and our offering is as warming as it is refreshing."
You can expect to find the classic egg roll with a Superfreak twist, starring jammy eggs, cheddar, coriander and a shallot herb salad; a warm oat, rye and buckwheat porridge finished with a chunk of butter; and a hefty brekkie plate with rye toast, comté, whipped butter, seasonal jam, house pickles, a soft boiled egg and radish among the breakfast options. Sweets might include a jam-filled melting moment or a brandy-spiked bread and butter pudding.
For drinks, you'll find the usual array of coffees supplied by Single O and Artificer Coffee available on rotation, alongside fresh juices, smoothies and adaptogen drinks to fuel you throughout the day.
Plus, you can also opt to dine in or take away your meal — and with Enmore Park just across the road, an al fresco meal surely beckons.
You'll find Superfreak at 333 Enmore Road, Marrickville, open from 6.30am–3pm daily.
