Overview

With every passing day, The Galeries is feeling less like a shopping centre and more like an outpost of the inner suburbs. Just this week, The Grounds announced details of its impending arrival and, now, Newtown's T Totaler has moved in.

If you've visited the Newtown HQ, the new addition will look familiar. It's pretty much a mini-version of the original. One part is a tea bar, designed by architect and artist Lucy Humphries. Here, you can retreat from the CBD's freneticism at a white stone bench with a brew in hand, be it a regular pot or one of T Totaler's fancy-pants creations, such as a cold brew, cold drip, sparkling, tea latte or tea-tails. While you're at it, match your pick with a chocolate from Bakedown Bakery, infused with native teas, native botanicals and Aussie-grown cacao.

The other part's a retail space. Up for sale are more than 30 teas you won't find anywhere else, featuring locally-grown leaf, from Coconut Lime Splice to Summer Fields to Roasted Green Mango. Also on the shelves, you'll find T Totaler's apothecary jars and tea test tubes, as well as a stack of standard tea-related accessories, including pots, strainers and whisks.

"We're continuing to change the way people think about tea with this new venture," said Amber Sunderland, founder of T Totaler. "Tea should be enjoyed and savoured, and we can achieve that, even with our busy lifestyles."

Find T Totaler at Shop RG26A on the ground floor of The Galeries, 500 George Street, Sydney. Opening hours are Monday to Wednesday 8.30am–6pm, Thursday 8.30am–7.30pm, Friday 8.30am–6pm, Saturday 10am–6pm and Sunday, 11am–5pm.
