Overview
Cheesecake lovers, run, don't walk: LeTAO has finally arrived in the heart of Sydney's CBD. The ultra-popular Japanese cheesecake brand has scored a brand-new store in the Japan-centric leisure and dining precinct of Regent Place — joining Uncle Testu, Tenkomori and Dopa Donburi and Milkbar.
LeTAO's ethos blends nostalgia with modernism, creating desserts that are reminiscent of the classics but feature the flavours, texture and presentation of modern dining.
"We have been perfecting our technique for over two decades and are very excited to introduce the LeTAO experience to Sydney," said LeTAO's CEO Naruto Uemura San.
This viral dessert brand began slinging its much-loved cheesecakes throughout Japan in 1998. The desserts first reached Australian shores in 2022 when LeTAO set up its first store in Melbourne. Now, Sydneysiders can also indulge in the cheesecake brand's heavily sought-after sweet treats and land on a verdict of their own.
Sydney's sleek flagship store dons a moody aesthetic curated by K. Holland architects. Its fitout consists of stone-grey interiors, mirrored ceilings and textured granite benches inspired by Hokkaido's mountains and topped with display cases containing the famed goods.
Plus, there are dramatic floor-to-ceiling windows to pair with the museum-style interior design so that citygoers can observe the treats while passing by.
"It's more of a gallery space than a traditional store," said K. Holland Director Kelly Holland. "We're trying to revolutionise how retail is done."
As for the tasty treats, a rotating menu of seasonal specials are available alongside LeTAO's beloved signature range. Take your pick from the range of cheesecakes including the iconic Fromage Double featuring Hokkaido cream, Italian marscarpone and Australian cream cheese, or the indulgent Chocolat Double using 66-percent cacao Spanish chocolate and a chocolate crumb.
If you enjoy a bit of bite to your cheesecake, the basque-style Tromage is for you. And to round out the selection is an Aussie exclusive — the decadent Snow Cake — with a creamy mousse cheesecake.
And that's not all — the menu isn't limited to its coveted OG cheesecakes, but also offers a jersey milk swiss roll, chocolate truffles infused with Darjeeling tea, cheese cookies, a plethora of dairy from Hokkaido, and in-store specials including its exclusive ice cream sundae and soft serve.
You'll find LeTAO's Sydney store open from 12–10pm daily at 501 George Street in Regent Place. Head to the store's website for more info and to order online.
