Overview
Restaurant Hubert's still riding the buzz of its much-hyped opening last year, though you sure won't find its owners, the legendary Swillhouse Group (Frankie's, Shady Pines Saloon, The Baxter Inn), resting on any laurels. Joining the big basement restaurant last week is Bridge Bon Appétit, a 42-seater bar now gracing the mezzanine level above Hubert's moody dining room.
While Hubert's all for luxuriating over global wines and beautifully-executed French feasts — and the adjoining Bar Pincer's your go-to for classic cocktails and steak frites — their new upstairs neighbour swings a touch more casual, with its wine bar-style offering and an intimate space that's primed for cosy groups of two or three. It's different enough to have its own personality, while still gelling nicely with the rest of the crew.
Up at Bridge Bon Appetit, oft-rotating menus and a good spread of specials give both kitchen and bar the chance to flex their creative muscles — it's a situation that's sure to have you unearthing something new each time you visit. Venture on up for all natural wines and a cocktail list infused with plenty of innovation, alongside a short-but-sweet menu of share-friendly eats from the open kitchen. Plus, it's a pretty enjoyable way to endure the two-hour wait for a table downstairs.
Bridge Bon Appétit is now open at Restaurant Hubert, 15 Bligh Street, Sydney. For more info, visit restauranthubert.com.au.
