Overview
No one's denying that a drive-thru is a godsend on a long drive. Not only are they convenient, but also, during a global pandemic, pretty necessary. So, in (very) timely fashion, Sydney's much-loved charcoal chicken institution Frango has launched its first ever charcoal chicken drive-thru. Yep, you can now get the lip-smackingly good chook and burgers in a matter of minutes just by winding down your window.
For the uninitiated, Frango — or Frangos as us Aussies lovingly call it — is a charcoal chicken chain run by the Fernandes family. What started as a humble local Petersham chook shop in the late 80s has since amassed a cult following among Sydneysiders.
Its chicken is crispy yet oh-so-juicy and, most importantly, has a generous slathering of chilli sauce. The famous chilli sauce recipe is a closely held family secret; it's got a good kick and will have you coming back time after time. The chook itself is cooked over the in-house charcoal firepits in traditional Portuguese fashion. If that doesn't have you already drooling, just wait till you pick up its famed Frango Burger.
While you're undoubtedly here for the chicken and burgers, Frango also has the likes of barbecue pork belly, marinated lamb rump, croquettes and seasonal salads. Of course, no order would be complete without chips — and, yes, you can add chicken salt.
Frango now has six locations across the city, including its drive-thru restaurant at Edmondson Park. The brand-spanking new outpost only opened on Tuesday, July 21 and is now celebrating its first weekend. And, it's Australia's first charcoal chicken drive-thru. So, if you were looking for an excuse to hit the bitumen — and you're a Frango fiend — look no further.
Frango Charcoal Chicken Drive-Thru is located at 2074 Camden Valley Way, Edmondson Park and is open from 10am–late daily.
