Overview

Forget orienteering, augmented reality, quizzes and QR codes. This is a new type of virtual easter egg hunt that will be played out on the internet and all you need to be equipped with is a high level of Google search savvy and an enthusiasm for sleuthing.

This nationwide competition — which kicked off on Wednesday, August 24 and runs until Saturday, September 24 — invites you to follow a trail of clues that will reveal specific Google search terms and they will be the key to unlocking the prize. If you can trick the Google algorithm into showing you a hidden ad, you can win a pretty covetable new piece of tech.

Yes, the competition might be virtual but the spoils are for real: successfully decipher the clues and you could be rewarded with a brand new Samsung Galaxy Z Flip4.

HOW IT WORKS

There will be three clues to unearth — the first of which you can view at the video below.

With each search term you manage to decipher and enter into Google, a Google ad will appear. Clicking on it will take you to a YouTube page where the clue will be revealed. (This is much more simple to actually do than it is to explain in written words.)

Finally, players who have watched all three clue films will have a chance to see the final video on YouTube and get the chance to enter to win a Galaxy Z Flip4.

There will be one winner each day and four on the last — so you've got plenty of chances to don your detective glasses.

Intrigued? You can track down Google easter eggs until Saturday, September 24. Head to the website to start your sleuthing and check the terms and conditions.
