We're all in need of a bit of cheer this year. Thankfully, the festive season is, as it does every year, creeping up quickly. So, it's time to start planning big boozy lunches with workmates, end-of-year catch-ups with old friends and feasts with family. To help you out, King Street's Cantonese go-to Jin's Teahouse is offering super-affordable Christmas banquets if you book in early. You'll just have to wrangle up at least three others to join you.
Jin's Teahouse is owned and operated by chef David Kang, who you may remember from Newtown's dumpling bar Luyu and Yum Yum, now closed. Kang has assembled a crack team to support him, including renowned banquet chef Franco Yuen and mixologist Santo Zheng.
There are three different set menus available, costing $39, $49 and $59, all of which come with starters, dumplings, mains, a rice dish, dessert and (unsurprisingly) tea. For the $39 feed, expect the likes of smoked duck, xiao long bao, salt and pepper ribs, wok-fried green beans and more. For the others, you'll get the same, plus steamed prawn dumplings, Jin's signature pork ribs, crispy eggplant, crab fried rice and pan-seared wagyu. Any dietaries, such as vegan and gluten free, can be accommodated — just be sure to give the restaurant a heads up prior to your booking.
Jin's also has a private dining room for groups, as well as semi-private seating next to the bar. Should you wish to imbibe, there's a solid list of summery cocktails, as well as wine, beer and cider.
