Australia is one of 17 megadiverse countries in the world, but did you know that over 1300 native plants are threatened or at risk of extinction? 1800 Tequila is highlighting this alarming trend with its part bar, greenhouse and art installation, popping up in Sydney and Melbourne this October.
The Greenhouse Bar by 1800 Tequila – The Bar Devoted to Biodiversity is a celebration of Australian botanicals — their diversity and fragility, as well as their place in cocktails. It is the latest conservation-focused event from the tequila brand after The Bar Saved From Landfill in 2022.
Botanicals are integral to crafting distinctive flavours and aromas that make each drink unique. Without botanicals, many of the cocktails we know and love would not exist. We are incredibly lucky to have access to some of the world's most unique botanicals in our native plants. But sadly, Australia faces a significant biodiversity decline — research from 1800 Tequila says that three in five Aussies are not even aware of this. It's up to us to educate ourselves on how to conserve these precious native plants.
The Greenhouse Bar by 1800 Tequila will open its doors in Sydney and Melbourne for one weekend only. Each location will run 90-minute sessions every 15 minutes starting from 2.30pm — the last session is at 7pm — which are only accessible to punters aged 18 years or above.
Tickets to The Greenhouse Bar cost $25. The tickets include your choice of four tequila-based cocktails made with native ingredients, light snacks to nibble on and seeds for guests to take home and plant.
Sydneysiders can visit The Greenhouse Bar in The Elston Room, Carriageworks, from Friday, October 20, until Sunday, October 22.
Melburnians will be able to say cheers to conservation at The Greenhouse Bar on Clifton Street from Friday, October 27, until Sunday, October 29.
The Greenhouse Bar is taking place at The Elston Room, Carriageworks, from 20–22 October at 2.30pm and 7pm and at Clifton St. Pop Up in Melbourne from 27–29 October at 2.30pm and 7pm. Tickets are available to pre-book now for the Sydney and Melbourne events.
1800 Tequila will donate 100% of bar ticket sales to its charity partner, Botanic Gardens of Sydney and its Rainforest Seed Conservation Project.
