Fich At Petersham

A neighbourhood fish and chip shop turned up a notch, tucked down a quiet Petersham backstreet.

Overview

Fich is a sustainable seafood eatery built around local produce, kept deliberately simple: a light, airy room with the energy of a seaside diner, plus takeaway for anyone eating on the couch or under a tree in the park. The takeaway menu runs long — fish tacos, fish popcorn with sriracha and sesame, and calamari and chips sit alongside grilled Atlantic salmon, Coral Coast barramundi or the FICH of the Day, with salads for the health-conscious and a loaded hot seafood platter of fish, mussels, squid, calamari and chips for feeding a crowd.

Eating in pushes things up a level: bacalhau croquettes with aioli and paprika, kingfish crudo with passionfruit and crispy corn, and prawn rissoles with peri peri mayo lead the entrees, backed by share plates of smoked eggplant, burgers, poke bowls and platters. Dessert is a short walk rather than a menu item — order out for a Portuguese custard tart from Sweet Belem up the road.
