A Japanese take on farm-to-table dining overlooking Sydney Harbour.
October 30, 2023
Fine dining meets Asian fusion at contemporary diner, Luna Lu, located along Campbells Cove in Circular Quay. This restaurant fuses traditional Japanese cuisine with quality Australian produce.
Diners can choose between tempting small plates such as cured Hokkaido scallops with cashew milk puree and lemongrass tea, green lip baby abalone from Kangaroo Island with XO sauce and black Angus Ranger Valley short beef ribs with sticky sauce and fresh chillies.
A range of dim sims is made fresh daily, with no artificial colours or flavours used. Diners can choose between classic money bags, charcoal har gow dumplings with king prawn and spanner crab, and purple Fan Jiao Zio dumplings with slow-cooked duck and more. And if you're here to impress on a business lunch, there's a high roller corner with oscietra caviar and scampi caviar, which you can add to all dishes.
Larger dishes include wok-tossed MB6 wagyu beef egg noodles, honey yuzu crispy fried chicken, seafood candied fried rice and Byron Bay Berkshire free-range dongpo pork belly. Vegetarians and vegans in attendance will not go home hungry with Kung Pao-style eggplant and a mock-chicken version of the honey yuku chicken dish.
The Luna Lu signature menu features the venue's showstopping dishes such as Tasmanian southern rock lobster, picked from the tank and wok-fried with yi mein noodles; Munakata F1 beef from Fukuoka Japan, served with Chinese spinach, beetroot crumble, white moon tea, and Nikka Whisky jus and topped with oscietra caviar; and Ikejime coral trout from the Great Barrier Reef steamed in a banana leaf with chrysanthemums and served with trout caviar cream sauce.
If there's room for dessert, choose between sticky date pudding, pandan deep-fried ice cream, dessert cocktails or Luna's Opera House — inspired by the iconic building — among others.
There's a variety of menus on offer at Luna Lu. Besides the main menu outlined above, there's the express lunch menu, a children's menu, a gluten-free version of the menu and a high tea menu available on the weekends from 12–4pm for bookings of four that includes a delectable selection of bite-sized treats, unlimited tea and coffee and a glass of sparkling on arrival.
Not to be outdone by the food on offer, Luna Lu pours a variety of signature cocktails, sake, gins, and whiskies, as well as an extensive wine list — with 18 Penfolds wines making the cut. More beverage options can be found upstairs at the sister watering hole, Bar Lulu, where decadent bar snacks, cocktails and wines are on offer.
Luna Lu can be found at Bays 4 and 5, 7-27 Circular Quay West, Campbells Cove, The Rocks.
