This back-alley, micro-sandwichery normally has lines out the door at lunch.

A sturdy Surry Hills establishment, Malibu doles out gigantic, takeaway sandwiches at an arguably competitive price. The idea is very simple: order what you want and eat it. No messing around, no unnecessary frills, no indoor seating.

Popular, pre-made choices include the boiled chicken, celeriac coleslaw and lettuce; the ham, bocconcini, tomato and basil; and the smoked salmon, potato and lettuce. Of course, if you're after your own thing you can DIY from a long list of ingredients. Salads can be made from about 20 ingredients and in winter a few soups appear on the menu, too, including borscht and goulash. Produce is sourced locally where possible, and there's coffee too.
