UPDATE: MARCH 23, 2020 — Simply Hummus Bar is still open for takeaway and is offering free delivery via DoorDash and UberEats.
What's in a name? When it comes to Simply Hummus Bar, everything.
What you see is what you get at this tiny vegan eatery, which is (as you've probably guessed by now) dedicated entirely to the goodness of blended chickpeas. Its aim is elevate the humble dip from snack to a full meal in its own right.
After the Simply Hummus Bar's success at various markets across Sydney, the stall has opened up its first bricks-and-mortar shop in Darlinghurst. Here, owner Yoash Dvir is hoping to help create a hummus culture akin to the one in his native country of Israel, where you can find the dish — and bars dedicated to it — almost everywhere.
Simply Humus Bar's spicy, flavour-packed hummus served with a piece of pillowy pita is the star of the menu; however, the bar's lunch special may just be the best deal in the area. For $13, you get a hummus bowl with pita and any two toppings, which include falafel balls, Israeli salad, mushrooms, tabbouleh and tahihi.
If you order any of the full-priced hummus bowls, you'll also get a free refill. Yes, free. Take it back, get more hummus, keep eating. Want to keep eating without restriction? Simply Hummus Bar also offers all-you-can-eat hummus, every day. For $23, you get endless bowls of the stuff as well as unlimited toppings and pita bread.
Pair one of them with Turkish coffee and delicious baklava.
The bar is now open for lunch every weekday and Sunday, as well as dinner on Wednesday, Thursday and Saturday.
