The Beer Barrel
This hidden gem specialises in pouring quality craft beers directly into growlers.
Before the weekend kicks off, a trip to the bottle shop is always a wise move. But have you ever thought about how much packaging is wasted from a standard six pack? Enter the growler, the 19th century draft beer bottle that's making a comeback. In a nutshell, it's a 1–1.89-litre jug designed to keep pours fresh for up to seven days. The best bit? You can nab one for yourself (and bring it back for a refill) at Chippendale's The Beer Barrel growler filling station.
The shop's ever-changing selection of craft brews will give you plenty of reasons to keep coming back, with the likes of Deeds Brewing, Bridge Road and Garage Project available. And it's not just your standard pale ales and lagers on offer, this is your chance to try something weird and wonderful, like Tiny Rebel's Stay Puft Imperial Salted Caramel Marshmallow Porter, a juicy triple IPA from Norway, Belching Beaver Brewery's Peanut Butter Milk Stout, a super tart, sour berry ale from Scotland, or Metallica's limited edition collaboration with Stone Brewing.
